Certainty

Barely awake as the arm rushes by Six, seven, eight o'clock, eight-thirty, nine There's a hole in the ceiling it's bleeding you dry Something ain't working, no, something ain't right So you sit up and aim for the door without sound An exits an answer at least for right now And your feet hit the carpet and start to excite 'Cause days like today they come once in a lifetime Only once in a while Now you're out through the door with the sun in your eyes Jumped to the sidewalk, hopped over the lines And the salt is like lava, the snow solid ground God, wasn't it winter three months ago now Huddled up on the Red line, you nap on the way Out past the school where those children would play And the shine of their wings would put salt in your eyes Today, it's the train but tomorrow we'll fly In the background I'll be there 'Cause some things never leave ya And in the off chance you see me Come waste your breath on me, babe In the background I'll be there In the background I'll be there 'Cause some things never leave ya And in the off chance you see me In the off chance you see me Come waste your breath on me, babe In the background I'll be there In the background I'll be there 'Cause some things never leave ya And in the off chance you see me In the off chance you see me Come waste your breath on me, babe Back on the bus, take it up to the lake Hot on the tracks now, just miles away And you slip on the ice, send your face to the ground God, wasn't it winter three months ago now In the sand there's a castle with magical things Cattails and dust bunnies, apples and rings And it grants you a wish so you ask for the stars Says that's not what we do here but here's where you'll start There's a boat by the shoreline, I've made it for you There's no need for maps now, it knows what to do There's a crack in the distance, a break in the clouds A hole in the background, yes, a hole in the background As soon as you sail to that wall in the sky You notice the crack in the cloud to your right So you tap on it once and tap on it twice It opens up slowly and boldly you cry Well I'm certain there's something, I'm certain there's more I'm certain there's somebody right through that door Yes I'm certain there's something, I'm certain there's more I'm certain there's somebody right through that door And I'm sure Of it Yes, I'm sure Of it Yes, I'm sure Of it In the background I'll be there In the background I'll be there
